The Government College (A) Anantapur is one of the oldest and most prestigious government institutions in Rayalaseema region and fondly called “The Grand Old Lady of Rayalaseema”. The college has a vibrant work culture and holistic approach to education. This college has completed 106 years of yeoman service to the noble cause of education. The motto of the college is “educate and empower”. The goal of holistic education is to develop student’s physical, emotional, moral, psychological and spiritual attributes and make them employable. In a nutshell we can say that holistic education can bring all round development of the students. Our college has been providing diverse opportunities to the students to enhance their innate abilities and potentials. With the support from the staff and extension departments (NSS, NCC, WEC, RRC, Eco-Club etc), students are achieving in all types of competitions. The following are some of the activities which have been bringing the overall development of the students. We mentioned here some of the activities which brings the overall development of the students.

Diverse courses:

We have 32 UG Courses and 10 PG Courses accommodating 5744 students. We have distinguished courses such as Geology, Philosophy, Journalism, Urdu etc. Recently we have introduced new job oriented course BBA (specialization in Event Management)

Infrastructure:

We have wide and well ventilated class rooms, centralized air conditioned seminar hall and three digital class rooms to facilitate effective teaching and communication

Rich Botanical Garden:

Our Botanical Garden is having vast collection of plant species belonging to diversified families. It is considered as living laboratory for botanical works. We are maintaining, Rock Garden, Aquatic garden and Crop Cafeteria

Library:

Our library is completely automated and SAGE software is used to make it hassle free for the reader to find his favourite book from among 22,325 titles and 1, 17,210 volumes. So many rare books are deposited in the library.

Vibrant Alumni:

The college prides in the fact that Presidents of the country, Chief Ministers, Judges of Supreme and High courts, numerous IAS and IPS officers are among its alumni. Sri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, Former President of India, Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah, Former CM of Andhra Pradesh, Prof U R Rao Former Chairman of ISRO, Dr Y V Reddy, Former Governor of RBI are some among the long list of illustrious alumni of this illustrious institution

Sports and Games :

We have a well equipped Physical Education Department which brings several medals and trophies from State, National and international level. Students are fortunate to have coaching for basket ball from the Spanish Coaches during summers.

Play Ground for women students:

We have separate play ground for women students in front of our college campus. Hence it is great opportunity for women students to practice and participate in games and sports.

Public Accessable College Ground:

Our College is located at the heart of the town and it is having nearly 5 acres of play ground. This is the only available place for morning walkers and players. Morning and evening college play ground is allowed for public for walking, yoga, meditation, games and taking rest.

Placements:

Totally 1175 students are absorbed in to several companies during the last five years in different companies such as Flextronices, Fast rack, Amararaja Batteries, HGS, Greentech, RSMIPL, Sriram Fainance, Cogent BPO, Flipcart, India Mart, Axis Bank, Vinutna Fertilizers, Aurobindo Pharamcy, ICICI Bank, Big-C, Mahindra Finance, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, Fourth Space Technologies, Q Connect, Star 9 News, etc.

Youth Festivals

Youth festivals are organized every year in the Drama Hall. Every year lion share prizes have been bagged by our students. NSS Programme Officers and NSS volunteers are actively participate in this programme.

Spanish Language training:

Dr. N.B.Shama Bharathi Lecturer in English is taking lead role in training the students in Spanish language which will be useful in getting jobs in multinational companies.

Endowmnent Prizes:

Thirty Endowment Prizes having total worth of Rs. 17, 53 116 for meritorious students

Industry connect:

There are a few small scale industries near to Anantapur town which provide job opportunities to the students. Few among them are Sapthagiri Camphor industry and some other agro based industries are there such as Techno Mushrooms.

Staff with Ph.Ds :

The total staff members in our college are 153. Among these 78 are Doctoral degree holders and 10 members have guideship. Hence students can have effective teaching and can be guided both academic side and career build-up.

Coaching for Post Graduation Aspirants:

Staff members are taking special attention to prepare the students for P.G. entrance exams and they are getting admitted into IFLU, HCU, SVU, YVU, SKU etc

Value and Skill based Education:

Human Values and Professional Ethics is a compulsory paper which is included under Life Skill Development Courses designed in 1st semester. Besides this several Skill based courses are included in the curriculum As per the NEP students are undergoing one moth Community Service Projct, two months Industrial Internship and six months long job training.

NSS:

We have 5 NSS units which take lead in representing the college at state and national levels. From the last five year NSS volunteers bagged so many state and national awards. Our NSS volunteers got state best NSS volunteer Award from 2017 to 2019. Former NSS volunteer Mr. Bharath got national medals form the President and working in UNICEF and got United Nations prestigious Best Volunteer Award.

NCC:

We have two NCC units one for men another for women. NCC wings are actively participate in social service, Clean and Green programmes, and organizing national festivals, college functions and awareness programmes. From the last five years NCC cadets bagged so many medals and prizes state level and national level. We feel proud to say that for the last three consecutive years our NCC cadets participated in Republic Day parade and represented from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
